The Brooklyn Nets, in desperate need of some front-court scoring, have inquired about the availability of Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, reports the New York Daily News.

Garnett, 37, has a no-trade clause in his contract and said last season he wasn’t going to waive it.  Garnett is still under contract for two more years, worth $24.4 million with the Celtics.

The Nets, under new coach Jason Kidd, have the 22nd pick in Thursday’s NBA draft and have been looking for a trade partner to take on guard MarShon Brooks.

Garnett averaged 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Celtics last season.

More from the Daily News:

But circumstances changed dramatically with the Celtics following a first-round playoff loss to the Knicks, with GM Danny Ainge committing to rebuilding and Doc Rivers bolting to the Clippers.

A proposed deal that would’ve sent Garnett to the Clippers with Rivers was blocked by the NBA because it’s illegal to package a coach with players. Rivers’ new contract includes a stipulation that the Clippers and Celtics can’t swap players until the end of the 2013-14 season.
